Music and Conversation
It was during our time in the Island of Portland providing music for a gig called Let Music Unite and support when such was useful and needed, that the Bibby Stockholm barge docked not far from Portland while the men on board waited for their asylum claims to be assessed. In an effort to make their waiting time less distressing, we joined with Leigh and his team at the Dry Dock Pub to provide music workshops, music and conversation in a very warm, welcoming – albeit sometimes a bit cramped with everyone who joined in – but endlessly kind, caring, and safe space for the men on the barge to join in and feel less isolated.
TCFT and Bridport
Opera Circus began visiting Bosnia through Nigel Osborne and the opera, Differences in Demolition inspired by the Balkan music of Sevdah. We started with a week long residency at Bridport Arts Centre through the generosity of Chris Huxley, Artistic Director. Travelling to Bosnia and Herzegovina with the opera started this extraordinary journey and led us to a continued deeply personal and creative relationship with this country and region. TCFT began as a result of this when we were invited to meet a group of young artists in Srebrenica.
Care Leavers Co-Creating Futures
Children and young people who end up in care often do so as a result of abuse and trauma. All of them have experienced significant attachment disruption, even those whose care order has been for bereavement of their carer. Then at age 18, care by the state stops and they make their own way to transition to independence sometimes with help from youth workers, mentors or local care leaver hubs.
